The Library Reference and Non-fiction collections are classified using the Dewey Decimal System. Fiction books are shelved alphabetical by author and Periodicals are alphabetical by title. There are also some Non-fiction call numbers shelved in the English Novels, DRP, Juvenile, Spanish, Young Adult, and Video collections.
Reference Collection
- Located adjacent to the Reference Desk
- Labeled with REF above call number
- Books do not circulate
Non-Fiction Collection
- Shelved by Dewey Decimal number
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
Fiction Collection
- Designated with FIC and shelved in alphabetical order by author
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
Juvenile Collection
- Shelved at the end of the Non-fiction books
- Have both Fiction and Non-fiction call numbers
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
- A growing collection of picutre books
Spanish Collection
- Shelved at the end of the Non-fiction books
- Have both Fiction and Non-fiction call numbers
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
Young Adult Collection
- Designated with YA and shelved in alphabetical order
- Located at the end of the DRP books
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
Graphic Novels
- Designated with GRA above call number and shelved at the end of the Young Adult collection
- Circulate for 3 weeks
DRP Collection - Literature Circle Books
- Shelved at the end of the English Novel collection
- Have both Fiction and Non-fiction call numbers with colored labels to designate grade
- Purple - Sophomore
- Orange - Junior
- Green - Senior
- Circulate for 3 weeks and may be renewed
English and Classroom Collection
- Shelved at the end of the Spanish Collection
- Have both Fiction and Non-fiction call numbers with colored labels
- Blue - English
- Yellow - Classroom
- Checked out by English and Social Science classes
- Circulate for 12 weeks and may not be renewed
Audio Book Collection
- Shelved with the English Novel Collection
- Designated with AUD above the call number
- Books on Playaway and CD
- Circulate for 12 weeks and may not be renewed
Periodical Collection
- Shelved alphabetical by title
- 5 years of back issues
- Current year on the shelf
- Ask at the Reference Desk for back issues
- Periodicals do not circulate
Video Collection
- Designated by DVD or VID above the call number
- Have both Fiction and Non-fiction call numbers
- Shelved in the Library Workroom - ask for help at the Reference Desk
- Circulate to faculty only
Reserve Collection
- Faculty may create a Reserve collection of books to be used only in the library
- Books remain on Reserve until released by the faculty member
- Books do not circulate
- Books are shelved outside the Library Research Lab
Vertical File Collection
- Designated with VER above call number and shelved in the black file cabinets
- Pamphlet and news article file
- Files do not circulate
