SCROLL SAW
SAFETY INSRUCTIONS
Scroll Saw (PDF)
1. Before turning on the power to the jig saw you must turn the machine over by hand to make sure that all of the moving parts are clear. If any of the parts bind up as the power is turned on it will break the blade and cause additional damage.
2. Materials to be cut on the jig saw must be flat on the bottom. This will prevent the materials from rocking and twisting, witch can cause the blade to brake or your fingers to go into the blade and be severely cut.
3. The blade must be installed in the jig saw with the teeth pointing down. The teeth will then cut the material on the down stroke and will not cause the material to bounce up and down as it is being cut.
4. Safety glasses are always worn when operating the jig saw. This will help in preventing small particles from getting in your eyes.
5. On most jig saws it is possible to tilt the table. If your material needs to be cut at an angle, or with a bevel, the table can be tilted. Before you tilt the table you must have your work checked by the teacher.
6. Adjustments are to be made only when the machine is completely stopped. This will prevent you from being cut by any moving parts as you are making adjustments.
7. The blade of the jig saw should be cut on the down stroke. This will pull your material down against the table as it is being cut rather than lifting it up off the table and causing it to bounce up and down.
8. The narrow blade on the jig saw makes it possible to cut various shapes. Such As: inside and outside curves, straight lines, and irregular shapes.
9. Before operating the jig saw you must get permission from the teacher. The material you want to cut may not be suited to be cut on the jig saw.
10. The material you are cutting is held firmly against the table by the hold-down. The hold-down should be adjusted down against the top of the material before the power is turned on.
