Communication between Parents and Teachers:

You are invited to join in the effort to make the most of this opportunity for your child by

discussing the skills being learned, insights gained, and encouraging work on the projects in

free time in class and at home.

Consider attending meetings of the Nebo Gifted Children’s Association.

There is a dual membership : Nebo and Utah.  UAGC has a conference in January .

Look at the SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted) website <www.sengifted.org>

I have studied to obtain a Gifted and Talented Endorsement on my teaching certificate.

through BYU in cooperation with Nebo School District . With new information that is based

on research the program will see some changes.

I would like the chance to meet with you at SEP conferences to develop a plan to make the

most of my time with your student. This plan will be centered around your child’s strengths,

weaknesses and potential. Please stop by my classroom, lower level of the second grade hall.

We will be working on projects using the Renzulli & Reis Triad/Revolving Door Model.

This model has three levels:

Type I is enrichment for all students. Mapleton Elementary will offer many of these

such as field trips, guest speakers, and activities in the classroom and on a grade level.

Type II activities are for students who show high ability, creativity and task

commitment. They consist of learning research skills, higher level thinking skills, and other

tools for life long learning. I will be working with students on these activities.

Type III projects are independent or small group projects that are of high interest.

The students plan and carry these out on their own. I am available to facilitate Type III

projects.

I will be making adjustments this year to connect our projects to the core curriculum your child is

working with in their classroom through parallel curriculums of identity, connection, and profession

please see the article about parallel curriculum on my website <staff.nebo.edu/~carol.day>
